Students will go more in depth with each of these elements of music so as to prepare them for playing recorders in fourth grade. In 3rd grade physical education we review throwing, catching, kicking and hitting skills, and begin incorporating them into soccer, basketball, and softball games.
We also begin formal fitness testing. Overall, we are learning to become responsible young Christians in the way we participate in physical activity. Our goal in Spanish is for your child to learn Spanish, appreciate culture, have fun and most importantly gain a better understanding of the diverse world that God created!
Henrietta Konynenbelt. Capstone Project — The third grade capstone project focuses on the season of Lent. The children learn the importance of how the Lenten season is a time to reflect on our relationship with God, spend more time in Bible reading and prayer, and find ways of serving others. On Ash Wednesday we place ashes on our foreheads to remind us of our dependence on God. Students are challenged to sacrifice something important in their own lives to help them grasp the importance of Christ being a sacrifice.
Language Arts In third grade, our goal is for students to see themselves as readers and writers. Science Third graders explore weather in different parts of the world and different times of the year. Jenna Schramm Mrs. Students encourage each other in their reading.
The Daily 5 workshop is a student-driven management structure designed to fully engage students in reading and writing. We will also begin to use chapter books to form reading groups to instruct and challenge students. All of the experiences help children to develop a true love for reading. In all of our reading experiences, we strive to see God in the people, places and events we come in contact with. Writing Workshop: Our new writing workshop is in year three! This model provides direct instruction through mini-lessons teaching skills and strategies.
Then the students get to write! Teachers confer with students individually and in small groups. The students practice writing techniques and strategies before using them in a draft. Students revise, edit and publish at least once per unit. Assessment is not limited to the final published piece. Good writing is about making decisions about meaning. Spelling: Our spelling curriculum is called Words Their Way. This is a word study for phonics, vocabulary, and spelling instruction.
Students learn their way—building from what is known about words to what is new.
7th Grade – Hudsonville Christian
Spelling inventories are given to the students to obtain a general picture of their development. The students are then grouped according to their needed instruction. The students will also be learning to spell and recognize basic sight words important for reading and writing. Math: Math Expressions, from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, is a comprehensive mathematics curriculum that offers new ways to learn mathematics.
